AICTE Decision :: More Engineering Seats to AP

Its Just mercy Killing to Rural engineering colleges...
This year the number of engineering seats in engineering colleges in the state is set to increase. The recent decision of the AICTE to lift upper capacity of 540 seats in engineering colleges accredited by the National Bureau of Accreditation-NBA has well settled urban college managements to apply for more seats.
Now as per new norms, the AICTE will permit additional sections with 60 seats in each branch, provided the colleges have adequate built-up area to accommodate additional students. AICTE got about 100 applications from top colleges to grant additional sections. It is expected to give 120 more seats in each college resulting in addition of 12,000 seats overall. The government is against any increase in seats as the number has touched three lakh and about one lakh seats went vacant last year. This give big effect on Rural engineering colleges most colleges going close on this effect.

Common Screening Test (CST) - A Common Plotform to all Govt Job Seekers

National level CST boost confident levals of Aspirants...
The Staff Selection Commission is planning to introduce a new “common screening test-CST” like GRE. CST score an aspirant gets in this test would determine if he or she should apply for a clerks’ job, a bank officers’ job or try to become an IAS officer. CST scores could be used for screening candidates by all government departments, PSUs, banks etc. Candidates will be allowed to appear for the CST as many times as they want, with the scores being valid for two years. This will include different levels like Matric, higher secondary and graduate level.
The scores of each candidate will be the deciding factor on the type of posts and grades they will be selected for. The new system is expected to shorten the recruitment process by at least three months apart from making it easier for candidates as they won’t have to appear for multiple tests.
Candidate will get 2 hours in CST and the question paper will of the objective type. It will include subjects like English, general awareness, general intelligence and Mathematics. Each of the sections will have 50 questions. The certificate will be sent to the candidate’s address and they will be given an option to download a duplicate copy from the official website, which will be valid for two years.(Deccan)

Mending polymers with light

We know all too well from daily life that materials made from polymers can be damaged: Tires get punctured, garbage bags rip, plastic eyeglass lenses get scratched. But over the past decade, several ways have been developed to heal polymers. Some methods are autonomous, drawing only on resources within the material. More commonly, though, the repair process is externally activated, typically by heat: When heated above their glass transition or melting temperature, the polymer chains can rearrange, diffuse, and re-entangle. Stuart Rowan (Case Western Reserve University), Christoph Weder (University of Fribourg), and colleagues have now demonstrated a healing mechanism activated by light. The team's method exploits so-called supramolecular polymers, in which noncovalent bonds connect large repeating units. In the new work, the repeating units were elastic, hydrophobic hydrocarbon segments terminated by hydrophilic ligands. Those building blocks, termed macromonomers, were joined together into chainlike structures by metal ions, either Zn2+ or La3+. The chains' hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions phase separated into a tough, cross-linked lamellar pattern. When UV light excited the metal–ligand bonds, most of the absorbed energy went into heating, which locally dissociated and liquefied the macromonomers. Thus freed, the macromonomers could quickly diffuse and mend defects. The researchers found that for some experimental samples, two 30-second bursts of light could completely heal cuts halfway through a thin film and restore the material to its original toughness. (M. Burnworth et al., Nature 472, 334, 2011.)—Richard J. Fitzgerald
